Better Connected With A Phone Line

With the introduction of the mobile phone (a gradual process that began with unwieldy, unviable handsets in the 70’s) came speculation that the days of the landline were numbered. Surely, with this clever new mobile technology, the home phone line would be rendered obsolete? This, as it turned out, was not the case…

Perhaps the most important advantage that a home phone line has over a mobile handset, is in case of emergency. The government recommend keeping an analogue phone (which is powered solely by the power in the phone jack), so that you can contact emergency services even if your mobile has run out of battery. It’s certainly smart to keep both types of phone in the house, to cover yourself in as many ways possible.

Landlines also save money. If you are running a business from home, or even if you just have teenage daughters, you will know how expensive phone bills can be. Mobile phone bills, regardless of the network provider, are always considerably more expensive than landlines. When you factor in long distances between callers, the costs can become astronomical – phoning abroad using a mobile may cost 30 times what it would on a landline.

The quality of the connection will also be considerably better with a home phone line. The problem of calls being suddenly disconnected, not to mention static interference, simply doesn’t exist with a landline.

Home phone lines are affordable, convenient and may well connect you to life-saving assistance in an emergency. They cost a fraction of mobile costs, and are already installed in homes and offices throughout the world.

If you don’t have a phone line installed, you can get one as part of most internet packages. Sky offer a particularly good value-for-money deal, with Unlimited Broadband usage and a phone line thrown in, for less than £20 per month.
